What is the Southern Dharma Celebration?

The Southern Dharma Celebration is a regional Buddhist meditation festival where people gather to receive blessings, learn about the Buddhist spiritual path and meditate together. This regional event is organized by Kadampa meditation centers and branches in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi and the Florida Panhandle.  In 2024, the Southern Dharma Celebration is hosted by Kadampa Meditation Center Georgia.

Anger appears in many forms and disguises.  Sometimes it manifests as a feeling of stress, other times it may take the form of depression. From the slightest frustration to resentment and embittered rage, anger is an emotion we all need to understand and conquer if we are to enjoy and make the most out of our life. In this course we will explore practical solutions to the problem of anger, deconstructing its actual causes and learning viable alternatives to this painful habit of mind.

Meditations for Anxiety: Half-Day Course

Anxiety is quite prevalent in these turbulent times. It is common to experience fear and anxiety, and as a result we often turn to things that don’t address the real problem. We try to numb ourselves with denial, distractions, food or other substances, or we just exhaust ourself trying to control everything around us. In this half-day course based in Buddhist Psychology we will learn time tested methods that will help us to deeply relax and take hold of the ‘mind of anxiety’, so that it is no longer in control of our life.

Nyungnay: A Purification & Fasting Retreat

Friday April 12 & Saturday April 13 | 7:00am - 4:445pm (3 sessions)

Every April Kadampa Buddhists around the world celebrate Buddha’s Enlightenment Day by engaging in Nyungnay, a special purification practice. This two-day retreat, which is done in conjunction with Thousand-Armed Avalokiteshvara practice, is a powerful method for purifying negative karma of body, speech, and mind, and for pacifying strong delusions.

Meet Our Resident Teacher

Kadam Sharon Lovich

Kadam Sharon has been practicing meditation and Kadampa Buddhism since 2003 and is the Resident teacher of the Je Tsongkhapa Kadampa Buddhist Center in Asheville. Before Sharon moved to Asheville in 2011, she volunteered as the Education Program Coordinator for several years at the internationally renowned world peace temple for meditation and modern Buddhism, Kadampa Meditation Center New York. There she received teachings and guidance directly from our General Spiritual Director, Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong, guided retreats, and taught classes. She has engaged in numerous focused meditation retreats and is known for teaching others how to develop a peaceful mind with great skill, lightness, and humor. Today, Sharon is a part of the Special Teacher Training Program and teaches numerous meditation classes and retreats in Asheville, NC and Greenville, SC. Sharon and her husband have one son.
